WHAT IS CHAKLI (MURUKKU)
Chakli, also known as “Chakari” or “murukku”, is a savory, crunchy snack, typically made during festival time in India. This deep fried spiral shaped snack is made with different combinations of lentils, and spices, shaped into spirals and deep fried until golden brown.
Commonly used lentils flours include rice, bengal gram (besan), wheat flour and black gram (urad dal). Depending upon the type of flour(s) used, and also the different spices used in making the chakli, the taste and flavor will be different.
