Here is a diabetic friendly version of idli that replaces rice with wholesome moong dal. To get tastier for this snack I am doing some additional seasoning to get more tasty and spicy.

1CupSplit Green moong dal
1OnionChopped
1/2tbspGreen chili paste

1/2tspUrad dal
1/2tspCumin seeds
1/2tspMustard seeds
1/2tspChana dal
Hing
Turmeric
1Dry red chili
5Green chiliSlit
Curry leaves
1/4CupTamarind Juice
1tbspJaggery
Instructions
Soak moong dal in a deep bowl with enough water for 5 to 6 hours.
Drain and blend in a mixer to a smooth paste using little water and salt.
Transfer the mixture into a bowl, add the green chili paste and mix well.
Grease idly mould with ghee.
Pour batter into each greased idli mould and steam in a steamer for 12 minutes or till the idlis are cooked.
Cool slightly, demouldĀ and cut idly into 4 pieces and keep them aside.
