Peanut chutney | Groundnut chutney (Palli chutney recipe) with detailed photo and video recipe – Peanut chutney is a delicious spicy condiment from Andhra cuisine made with roasted peanuts, chilies & spices. Serve with breakfast & snacks.
What is Peanut Chutney?
It is an easy and tasty chutney made with peanuts and is served popularly along with South Indian breakfast dishes.
Among all the other Indian chutneys, this groundnut chutney is quite unique, given that there is no addition of coconut.
Later a tempering is poured which enhances the taste of this chutney even more.
You can choose to add whole peanuts or peanuts with their skin out, peanuts added without removing the skin adds a lot more fibre to the chutney, it also gives it a stronger flavour.
Ingredient in peanut chutney :
Peanuts : Always choose good quality peanuts and avoid rancid ones. Do check the peanuts before roasting them.
Green chilies : Traditionally green chilies are used but you can also use red chilies. Ingredients like red chilies and tamarind also affect the color of the chutney.
Curry leaves are healthy . It tastes good but they have to be fried well until crisp.
Dal is one of the key ingredient in most chutney recipes. Either chana dal or urad dal is used to enhance the flavor. But this peanut chutney tastes good even without dal as peanut itself has a nutty aroma. So you can easily skip dal.
Did you know peanuts are technically not nuts? They actually belong to the legume family and are therefore related to beans, lentils, and soy. Doesn’t matter to me, I love to eat them either way – Not only do peanuts taste good, they are also rich in protein, fat, and various healthy nutrients.
For a plant food, peanuts are an exceptionally good source of protein with protein content ranging from 22-30%. Peanuts are high in fat with the fat content ranging from 44-56%. Peanuts are low in carbs. A great choice for a low carb diet and for diabetics. They are an excellent source of various vitamins and minerals.
Do note that peanut is also an allergenic food, and many people have life threatening allergies to it. So be careful when serving this chutney to guests.
